What to expect during a Reiki session

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle yet powerful form of energy healing that helps bring your body, mind and spirit back into balance. It’s based on the understanding that universal life force energy flows through all living things, and when that flow is disrupted, we can feel anxious, ungrounded or disconnected.

This healing energy goes by many names; you might know it as chi, prana, life force, spirit, universal intelligence, God, Goddess, or simply… love.

Reiki invites your body to relax deeply, so it can shift from survival mode into a state of rest and repair. As a Reiki practitioner, I don’t “send” healing, I hold space and anchor the energy so your body’s own innate intelligence can gently guide what’s ready to move or shift.

Who is Reiki for?

Reiki is for anyone who feels overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, burnt out, or simply needs space to reconnect. You don’t need to believe in anything for Reiki to work, just a willingness to receive and be open to what unfolds.

What happens in a Reiki session?

Your first Reiki appointment with me is 90 minutes long. This gives us time to check in, settle into the session, and gently come back afterwards. The Reiki treatment itself usually lasts around 60 minutes, with time on either side to ground, reflect, or ask any questions.

During the session, you’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table, supported by pillows and blankets to help you feel safe and comfortable. If lying down isn’t accessible for you, we can absolutely adapt to a seated position. Just let me know what feels best.

I’ll use a light touch on specific areas of the body — such as your head, heart space, arms, torso, hips, knees, and feet — unless you prefer a no-touch session. Before we begin, I’ll walk you through what to expect and check in with your preferences around touch and comfort.

What does Reiki feel like?

Everyone’s experience is different. You might feel warmth or coolness, gentle tingles, subtle waves of energy, or simply a deep sense of calm. Some people drift into sleep, which is totally okay. Reiki works whether you’re consciously aware of it or not.

You may also experience emotional release, insights, or physical sensations. There’s no right or wrong; allow yourself to receive whatever arises.

What should I wear?

There’s no need to undress. Wear something soft and comfortable that you can relax in while lying down.

What should I do afterwards?

Take it slow. Drink plenty of water, allow some space for rest or reflection, and be gentle with yourself. Some people feel lighter and clearer right away, while others may feel a little tired as their body integrates the session; both are completely normal.

If anything stands out or continues to shift in the days after your session, you’re always welcome to reach out and share. I love hearing how the energy continues to unfold.

A note on my training

I’m trained to Level 3A in the Usui lineage of Reiki, the level just before Reiki Master Teacher. My training has equipped me with both hands-on and hands-off techniques, and I can adapt the session to honour your comfort and consent.

Ready to experience Reiki for yourself?

Whether you're craving a nervous system reset, emotional support, or simply some time to be held, you’re so welcome here.
