How Often Should I Book In For Reiki?

A guide based on energy, evidence, and real-life healing

Reiki is more than just relaxation. It’s a deeply restorative practice that can help regulate your nervous system, release emotional tension and reconnect you with yourself.

Many people feel noticeably calmer, clearer and more grounded after just one session.

But a question I’m often asked is:

“How often should I have Reiki?”

The answer? It depends on what you need right now. But both research and real-life experience show that consistent sessions tend to create deeper, longer-lasting shifts.

Reiki and the nervous system

Stress, anxiety and long-term emotional strain can keep the body locked in survival mode (fight, flight, freeze).

Reiki gently helps the nervous system shift into a state of rest and repair. In that space, your body and mind can release, rebalance and begin to heal, energetically and emotionally.

That’s why many people return to Reiki not just as a “treat,” but as a meaningful part of their ongoing self-care. A way to stay grounded, emotionally supported and energetically aligned.

What the research says about frequency

While the Reiki evidence base is still growing, some clear patterns are beginning to emerge:

Research

Findings

Liu et al., 2025 – Meta-analysis

Strongest outcomes with 8+ sessions of 60+ mins

Thrane & Cohen, 2014 – Review

Repeated sessions improved anxiety and pain

Reiki Federation UK (1411 sessions)

Even one session showed reduced stress

Anxiety Intervention Review, 2024

3–6 sessions produced measurable changes

The takeaway?

One session can absolutely help. But a gentle rhythm of sessions, spaced to suit your needs, allows for deeper integration, nervous system repair and emotional transformation.

Supportive rhythms to consider

Your intention

Suggested rhythm

Feeling stressed or depleted

Book as needed

Life transitions or emotional overwhelm

Every 2–4 weeks

Nervous system support

Fortnightly to start, then monthly

Ongoing wellbeing & maintenance

Monthly or seasonally

Deeper emotional healing

A bundle of 3–6 sessions

These aren’t rules, they’re simply supportive guidelines. Your healing journey is yours to lead.

Why consistency matters

Reiki works gently, but deeply. Like any holistic practice, the effects tend to build over time.

Regular sessions can:

  • Support emotional processing and integration

  • Calm and retrain the nervous system

  • Strengthen your connection with self

  • Help release stored stress gradually

  • Provide a steady, supported space for change

A client-led approach

I’ll never pressure you to rebook or push a particular pace. Instead, I invite you to stay connected to your own needs, listen inward, and book when it feels right.

Reiki is here when you’re ready, whether that’s next week, next month or next season.

Final thoughts

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. What matters most is that your support feels spacious, safe and aligned with where you are.

Whether you're seeking nervous system balance, emotional support or simply a deeper sense of connection, Reiki offers a place to land.

And if you're ready to go deeper, I’d love to walk beside you.

With gratitude,
